A new edition of Altaroma is about to begin. From 4th to 7th July, more than 100 designers and around 400 students from fashion academies will animate the industrial district of PratiBus in the neighborhood Prati.
Thanks to the help of our Partners (the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, the Region of Lazio, the publicly owned company “Risorse per Roma” and the Metropolitan City) and to the key support of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and of the Italian Trade Agency, Altaroma continues to pursue its mission by strengthening its support for emerging talents and the excellence of Italian production and by attracting more international attention to its initiatives.
Altaroma focuses on giving support to young talents and independent brands of the industry with special regard to the formation projects of students from Italian fashion schools, this edition will consolidates its role as an exchange platform – a place to explore new trends, being a showcase and an incubator for emerging labels, as well as preserving the bond with the historical and artisanal tradition, spreading the knowledge of Made In Italy.
Our Fashion Week expresses perfectly the repositioning strategy of the company: Altaroma as a fashion hub opened to students, new talents and emergent creative minds that gives different opportunities and offers multiple venues for them to manifest their creativity and transform dreams in reality. A place where the press, buyers coming from major and strategic markets, and important players of the industry have the opportunity to know and appreciate closely the expression of the best independent and visionary fashion.
A great example of the commitment to encouraging emergent creativity is the young illustrator Anastasia Chernyavska, the author of the official image of Rome Fashion Week. Born in Ukraine and currently living in Milan, she was discovered through Portfolio Review – project in collaboration with Vogue Italia that examines the portfolios of students (designers, illustrator, and stylists) under 40 – and was chosen due to her singular and bold style that focuses on delicate yet expressive lines.
DassùYAmoroso, founded by Stefano Dassù and Pasquale Amoroso, after being part of Showcase, stages its “I Am What I Am” S/S 2020 fashion show; inspired by the punk culture, the duo promises to inject an adrenaline rush in the audience through pieces made in fluo nylon and vinyl.
Italo Marseglia focuses on upcycling the key component of its designing and aesthetic path: sing recovered textiles and pieces from the archives of different companies and applying new technologies to rework them, this season the designer will show at the catwalk a silhouette that mixes Victorian lingerie with fetish and dark symbols.
The fourth edition of Showcase, exhibition project organized by Altaroma that offers the opportunity for brands to participate and benefit from all the support necessary to promote and develop their businesses. Each day the project will display different names – on the ready-to-wear and accessories categories – that represents the Made in Italy quality, being in total 70 designers, with several new entries. A platform created to give visibility and connect new worlds of Italian lifestyle with the press and buyers and that, from this edition, introduces the possibility to buy on site through the e-commerce channels of designers.
Who Is On Next?, the consecrated scouting project targeted at new fashion talents and a unique and exclusive opportunity that saw the birth of many designers, Italians and foreigners, that have chosen our country to realize their creations and make their wishes come to life. Consolidating the role of Rome as the launch pad and incubator of new talents, it is the ideal setting for an experimental, fresh and innovative creativity which has never lost sight of its history and artisanal traditions. Many of the names that are consistent in the worldwide fashion scenario today come from previous editions of Who Is On Next? among which: Arthur Arbesser,Nicholas Kirkwood, Marco De Vincenzo, Gabriele Colangelo, Paul Andrew, Nicola Brognano.
For this season, Altaroma presents an exhibition with the work of the 4 finalists in the accessories category (Hibourama, Iuri, Maiorano, and Nahiot Hernandez); and a collective fashion show with the 5 finalists in the ready-to-wear category (Bav Tailor, Daniele Carlotta, Federico Cina, Jing Yu, and Twins Florence). One of them will be chosen as the winner by a jury of fashion industry’s experts, such as Suzy Menkes (Vogue International), Emanuele Farneti (Vogue Italia), Silvia Venturini Fendi (president of Altaroma), Carlo Capasa (president of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana), Raffaello Napoleone (Chief Executive of Pitti Immagine) and other representatives of the international fashion system.
Reaffirming Altaroma’s commitment in supporting young talents and the creative energy of the territory, we launch Rome Is My Runway – an initiative that will count with two special collective fashion shows with designers coming from the Lazio region. The title of the project is also the slogan of the event and represents an important occasion where the brands can show their collections in the Capital.
Training is the basis of success and Rome has excellent players in this field. Altaroma presents in its program the works of the fashion academies that will alternate on the catwalk starting from the Accademia Costume e Moda, which inaugurates the week with a pre-opening. Accademia Altieri Moda e Arte, Accademia del Lusso, Accademia di Belle Arti di Frosinone, Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli, Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, Accademia Italiana, Accademia Koefia, Accademia Moda Maiani and Istituto Europeo di Design will present the work and collections of their young students in one day reserved especially to them; the calendar will be closed by a fashion show of the finalists of “XXIX Concorso Nazionale Professione Moda Giovani Stilisti – CNA FEDERMODA”.
Fashion Digital Night comes back with its smart and sustainable fashion. The initiative promoted by Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with Emotion Wear, Accademia Bella Arti di Napoli, FabLab Frosinone, Dress Coders, and Carmen Moffa exhibits more than 20 projects of wearable technology, digital fabrication, and bio-material. It will also be possible to meet makers and designers that will explain the technical and technological principles under which the pieces are developed. The venue will be filled up with energy in the occasion of the media art performance curated by Spacetik Collective that will bring original connections between fashion and technology.
Sara Sozzani Maino, Deputy Editor of Vogue Italia and Head of Vogue Talents, and Simonetta Gianfelici, Fashion Consultant & Talent Scout, reunite once again for Portfolio Review. Being a breeding ground of creativity where the participants – all the creative fashion talents under 40 – can benefit from major opportunities to promote themselves and get in touch with the industry’s experts. The call is open not only for students from schools, universities, and academies, but also for emergent brands, and the summer edition is dedicated to fashion designers, illustrators, and sustainable fashion projects.
Highlighting the bound between fashion, art, and craftsmanship, A.I. Artisanal Intelligence, the project curated by Clara Tosi Pamphili and Alessio de Navasques, researches and promotes innovative forms of artistic expression while keeping in mind the historical realities of Italian manufacturers. Entitled “The Shape of Water”, this season’s exhibition will be around the theme of “the birth and rebirth of style in water”.
The vital link of Rome with haute couture is brought up by the designer Sylvio Giardina, who presents “Monocromo”, his F/W 19-2020 Alta Moda collection; and Sabrina Persechino with her winter “prêt-à-couture” pieces entitled “be_sign”. For info & contact www.altaroma.it.
